Preparing Children for Kindergarten

At Kiddie City, a preschool in Dunedin, each activity is thoughtfully designed to align with the universally recognized stages of child development.

These areas includes: Physical, Cognitive, Social/Emotional, and Creative. As the children progress and develop new skills, they will have a variety of new experiences to explore. This can help them attain mastery in different areas. Our program provides opportunities for children to enhance their social skills and connection with their peers.

Below, we outline specific goals and objectives for our Pre-K students, between the ages of 3 and 4. The program is based on the Beyond Centers & Circle Time curriculum. Not every child is expected to achieve all the objectives listed below. Developmental differences among children are entirely natural. These goals and objectives serve as a framework for our educators to implement the Beyond Centers & Circle Time curriculum.

Assessment System
Integrated with our curriculum, this program helps us identify and respond to the changing interests and abilities of the children. It’s a powerful tool for observing them, documenting their developing skills, and individualizing the teacher’s approach.
Cognitive Development
An essential process for learning and problem-solving. This program enhances logical thinking and the ability to engage in make-believe play, which fosters creativity and imagination. It also includes expanding verbal communication, and foundational reading and writing abilities. Through these processes, children acquire concepts and information that lead to a deeper understanding of their immediate environment.
Socio-Emotional Development
This process helps the child develop self-esteem, cultivate a positive outlook on life, and demonstrate cooperative, pro-social behaviors. These elements are essential for a child’s overall emotional health and social functioning.
Physical Development
This process involves improving gross motor skills, vital for large body movements such as walking, running, and jumping. Additionally, it plays a significant role in refining fine motor skills, necessary for precise hand and finger movements. Emphasizing the importance of sensory experiences in the learning process is a key aspect of fostering overall physical development.

Our Daily Activities

Pre-K Classroom Schedule

We take great care in planning our daily schedule to ensure a fun and balanced day filled with a variety of activities for all the kids. Each classroom has weekly lesson plans that parents can easily check out. Through engaging playtime, children get to boost their cognitive, social, emotional, language, and physical skills in a fun way. For our little ones who are still working on potty training, we’re here to support them every step of the way, with a little help from their parents too!
